Tin Ceiling Medallion

Probably the simplest, smallest ceiling decor that will give you BIG impact, is the tin ceiling medallion. Medallions are usually 4 tiles that are installed in a square pattern to create a centerpiece for your ceiling decor. The center can be cut to accommodate lighting fixtures. The medallion ceiling decor can work alone which makes it the easiest option for installation time and work.

Tin Ceiling Cornice

Everyone loves crown molding because it adds such an elegant touch to any room, so you can imagine what a tin ceiling cornice can do for your ceiling decor! You’ll love looking up once you’ve installed one of our classic designs. Of course the cornice ceiling decor is another really simple project since it is only installed along the edges of your ceiling.

Tin ceiling tiles and faux tin tiles are super easy to install these days and give you an instant classic look. You can create a custom look with designs that range from traditional to hobby specific like our toy train tile for ceiling decor that fits any room. The piece de resistance of course is sprucing up your ceiling decor with tin ceiling tiles, a medallion and cornice all together for a unified custom look!

By choosing a finish already available, or creating your own with some paint and elbow grease you can have a ceiling that looks vintage without the cost, and that fits your space.

You can recreate this look in your store with tin ceiling tiles finished in copper, or even faux tin tiles. With copper tiles the ceiling would age so wonderfully, and it’s a perfect way to accent a smaller entrance without having to break the bank. Even if you didn’t have the architectural feel from the windows, it would be easy to create a vintage look with faux painted walls. I would love this look in a small pub or vintage clothing store.

Headboard – Create a dramatic display in the bedroom by attaching tin tiles to your wall or a panel of wood to act as a headboard. Get really dramatic and take it all the way to the ceiling to make a statement.

Bar – Let’s face it, the backside of bars are usually pretty boring. Liven up your wet bar or even your breakfast bar by installing faux tin tiles on the back. You’ll get a custom look plus hide all the dirty shoe prints that often end up there.

Picture Frame or Mirror – You’ve seen them in stores everywhere, but you can make your own at a fraction of the cost. With faux tin you can easily cut openings with just scissors and then attach the tile and mirror to a light piece of wood for hanging. Fortunately, there are many options available now in faux tin ceiling tiles that will make your decision easier, and make a huge visual impact on your customers. There really is nothing worse than looking up in your favorite bar and finding those smokey, drab, water stained drop in styrofoam ceiling tiles.

Easy Installation

Drop in styrofoam ceiling tiles have been the go-to choice for restaurant and bar owners because the installation is so simple. You install the grid and the ceiling tiles pop right in. Faux tin ceiling tiles work exactly the same so there is no gluing or nailing. Just hang the easy to install grid system and drop in the tiles. Not sure I like the track lighting, but at least you can see what it would look like in your space. Maybe if it was painted the same red so the tracks blended into the tiles I would like it more. Great use of a tin border and cornice though that really give the ceiling a finished look.

But let’s leave the food for just a second and take a look at the beautiful tin ceiling tiles the store owners have chosen. I love a traditional white ceiling tile, it’s just so calming, and a perfect match to the walls and display cases.

I love the color combination the Jave ++ Coffeehouse at RPI chose to compliment their commercial tin ceiling. The deep plum really accents the tin squares in a modern way without feeling sterile. The yellow lights are a great choice too, reminds me of my favorite flower combination in my garden.

I love that they chose to install the lights in opposing directions as well, it’s unexpected but doesn’t really stand out right away, just a little design element you notice after you’ve been staring at the ceiling for awhile. (Everyone stares  at ceilings as much as I do right?)

First, if your home is older, you’ll want to have the popcorn tested for asbestos. Take a spray bottle filled with water and soak a small area in 4 different places on your ceiling. Scrape an inch of popcorn off each area and have it tested by a lab. If you have asbestos, you’ll need to have a professional company remove the popcorn, or choose to drywall over it, or cover it with ceiling tiles.

If asbestos isn’t a problem, you can start removing it by the simple method you used to take the samples. Soak the ceiling in 2 ft sections and scrape with a utility knife. As you can imagine, this is quite messy so you’ll want to remove all of your furniture first and lay down plastic to collect all the popcorn that comes off your ceiling as you work.

Once the popcorn is removed you’ll need to sand the ceiling, filling in any areas with spackle that aren’t even.

Now if that sounds like too much work, styrofoam, faux tin, or tin tiles are a great option as they can be installed directly over the popcorn ceiling. Tiles are much easier to handle than drywall, and they can be installed in a matter of hours.
